Well now it is possible to measure the strength of a webpage thanks to the SEOmoz.org newly devoloped tool. This new tool can be considered as a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Meter. It was created by Matthew Inman (any relation with Shaun Inman?) and Rand Fishkin. It is very easy to use and quite fast (takes around 30 seconds), you just have to input the URL of the page, click on the button “Get Page Strength” and then you have an idea about the relative importance and visibility of that site plus some more other info like the age of the domain, Popularity, Links, Listings, PageRank and more.

The Post-impressionist dutch painter, Vincent van Gogh, considered among the best painters ever, has a special kind of art that is recognizable from the first glance. Van Gogh has this chaotic touch in his paintings, indicating, may be, what’s going on in his mind. You all probably know this! So why am I talking about him now? what’s new? Well in fact I’ve read yesterday an article about him on Nature.com.
Well it says that Van Gogh was not only a great painter or an outstanding artist but also a genius Physicist! In fact a very recent mathematical analysis of Van Gogh’s paintings revealed that the patterns he was using for storms are painted in a manner that schematizes accurately real turbulences witnessed naturally in air or water swirls. Indeed Van Gogh’s art pieces have a pattern of light and dark that are closely imitating the deep mathematical structures of natural turbulent flows. This is true for many of his creations that he painted when his was suffering mental disturbances and psychotic problems that led to his suicide when he was 37.
Scientists tend to think that this is mainly due to Van Gogh’s psychotic issues that gave him the ability to represent turbulent flow with such big accuracy, as if he was understanding the physics of the phenomenon. Before he was mentally disturbed, Van Gogh was unable to retrace turbelences “correctly”, also whenever he painted under the influence of calming drugs (like Potassium Bromide) he was unable to depict flows the right way, this is obvious in his self-portrait for instance. It is amazing to know that a mentally ill genius Painter was able to represent flows whereas Scientists were unable to do so for centuries.
Digital copies of Van Gogh’s art were analysed and as a result, Kolmogorov scaling was detected. Many other “turbelent” paintings were analysed and Van Gogh seems to be the only artist that was able to detect and rerepresent turbulence flows with such mathematical accuracy and even showing a Kolmogorov scaling. Even Paintings inspired by Van Gogh’s style like The Scream painting by the norwegian painter Edward Munch, another mentally disturbed artist, don’t seem to render turbelence correctly and their light/dark probability distribution doesn’t fit in Kolmogorov’s concept.

While browsing the net, I’ve found this eCommerce shopping system hosted service called shopify. Well, as I said, Shopify is a hosted eCommerce script that allows you to create your online store to sell your stuff. it offers you plenty of possiblities to customize your store and organize your products etc…I think that it’s a very nice application, and moreover you won’t need to host it or to install it and then care about upgrading it… The template system seems to be very good and easy to customize too. So if you need quite a basic eCommerce platform, Shopify could be the right choice! it is may be not the best choice for a complex eCommerce store though. The fees and the conditions are good too IMO. Shopify also allows you to accept payments with Paypal.
You can read their FAQ for more info. Just give it a shot: Shopify.

This is an interesting new tool based on Technorati and that values your blog according to the info it gathers from there.
I am testing that with different blogs and the results seem to be logical! I mean bigger and better blogs have higher prices or at least this is what I am seeing. It seems that it is not based on the number of backlinks as one of the blogs I’ve submitted has no backlinks and is quite new and its value was about $600. This could be based on the most tagged keywords and their value, but this is not really logical! I can’t seem to guess how it works! I will keep you updated about this though.

Yes! DreamHost are Overselling and they acknowledge it! “yes, we are overselling” they say! you don’t believe me? here’s the link to the official DreamHost Blog post where they admit it and claim that it is is the right and smart thing to do in the webhosting business!
Overselling occurs when a host offers a plan to clients with huge features of disk space and Bandwidth for a low price but is, in reality, unable to provide all that amount of ressources hoping that the client (or most of them at least) won’t use all those features! This often come with CPU usage restrictions!!
Dreamhost are offering for just $7.95/month:
-1 FREE domain registration www.yourname.com
– UNLIMITED domains hosted
– UNLIMITED subdomains
– 20 GB Disk, 1 TB Transfer
– 3000 Mailboxes, 75 Shell/FTP Users
That’s huge for that price!! but it seems to work very well! They even have a Ruby on Rails hosting which is a bit slow but seems to be OK. They are among few webhosts that offer Ruby and Ruby on Rails Hosting.
I’ve read many good posts about them, I’ve read bad ones and they are not really my favourite hosting company! I am planning to buy a plan from them as they offer RoR hosting as I said above while my current host does not!
Want to get hosted with them? Use this Promo Code for huge discounts: DARKTRANQUILITY

Yes, Django! I am speaking about the Python framework! I am starting to mess with it, to test it and I am liking it! I have some projects on my head and I feel like Django is going to be a key tool in some of them! I am running on Linux (with Python 2.4.3), the installation was really smooth, I like that. For the database I started with MySQL but finally shifted to PostgreSQL which is the recommanded DB for Django. I am not a very good programmer nor I am a big fan of that but I really like the Django models and templates and enjoy them! I love it!

The Lussumo tiny light forum software that has so much style has launched its version 1.0!
I loved the previous versions that are perfect for small communities, the new version is even better! Vanilla is an open-source, standards-compliant, multi-lingual, fully extensible discussion web forum, the downloadable package weighs only 375 Kb.
You have PHP 4.1+ and MySQL 3.23+ installed! then you are right on!! just give it a shot, it is perfect for small communities that don’t need a lot of features.
go get it!!
